Must See Museums of London

As one of the oldest and most historically significant cities in the world, London has a very rich cultural heritage. To that end, the city offers many cultural attractions to its visitors and inhabitants.

Among these are the city's many museums, which are home to an impressive array of items from all over the world.

The first among these is The Natural History Museum which has a number of towering dinosaur displays which are very popular among visitors. Furthermore, the Darwin Centre within the museum is home to actual scientists and researchers whom visitors can actually see at work. At the museum's Investigate Science Centre visitors can even handle fossils of plants and animals, as well as geological samples.

Then there is British Museum has one of the most important libraries in the world, along with an equally prestigious natural history collection. The museum offers a fascinating glance at British history. Anglophiles can also get their fix of British history from the London Museum, which traces the history of the city of London from as far back as the time of the Roman civilization.

The Victoria and Albert Museum commonly referred to as "the V & A", has more than three thousand years' worth of art and craft items on display. Exhibits at the museum include those for ceramics, furniture, paintings and even contemporary art installations for photography and jewellery, among other attractions.

Horniman Museum

The Horniman Museum is famous for its natural exhibitions as well as those of historic cultural items from all over the globe. The museum, located a little more than ten minutes away by train from the London Bridge train station, has a small aquarium as well, which is well worth the trip on its own.

Imperial War Museum

Those interested in the history of the proud tradition of the British military can visit the Imperial War Museum. The museum has countless exhibits of historical weapons and uniforms, along with murals of famous British wars. The museum also has one of the best Holocaust exhibits anywhere in the world.

This is but a small number of the two hundred or so museums in London. That said, the city clearly has an enduring fascination with times past, much to the delight of those still basking in the nostalgia of bygone eras. It comes as no surprise, then, that a huge draw for many people who visit London every year is the number of museums in the city.
